Dynasty Warriors publisher Koei Tecmo will increase the average basic salary of its employees in Japan by 23 percent per month, representing an increase of 73,000 yen ($569).
The company announced the move on its website (via Google Translate) and also pledged to raise the starting salary for new graduates to 290,000 yen ($2262) per month, up from 234,000 yen ($1825).
The move comes after other Japanese game companies Bandai Namco and Capcom also chose to raise the base salaries of employees in the region.
Adding some context, Koei Tecmo said it wants to “improve the motivation” of its workforce and realize the “improvement of employee welfare.
“The ratio of basic salary to annual salary will be greatly increased for regular employees of domestic group companies, and the starting salary for new graduates will be greatly increased. We are pleased to inform you that we have decided to raise the number of employees and pay special bonuses,” wrote the company.
Koei Tecmo highlighted that performance in FY2021 remained strong despite environmental factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and said its now certain that it will exceed its profit target for the final year of its three-year medium-term management plan that began this year.
