Sony has confirmed to Polygon that it’s working on implementing two-factor authentication for PlayStation Network accounts after enterprising fans found mention of the security feature in a recent PS3 firmware update.
This is chiefly notable for industry watchers, since Sony is lagging a bit behind fellow platform holders Microsoft and Valve; the latter gave Microsoft account owners the option to enable two-factor authentication in 2013, and the security feature was added to Steam last year.
Gamasutra has previously advised developers to enable two-factor authentication on as many of their accounts and devices as they can, since the sometimes public nature of modern game development can put devs at increased risk of security breaches.
